Israeli: Air Strike Kills Senior Palestinian Terrorist

By Robert Berger (VOA-Jerusalem), Ha'aretz & Reuters

A senior Palestinian terrorist has been killed in an Israel air strike in the Gaza Strip and 10 other people were wounded. Palestinian medics said three of the wounded remained in critical condition.

An Israeli aircraft fired two missiles at a car carrying Palestinian terrorists in Gaza, turning the vehicle into a ball of fire. Mahmoud Arkan, a senior field commander for a radical group called the Popular Resistance Committees, was killed.

Israel decided to resume its controversial policy of assassinating terrorist leaders after five Israelis were killed in a suicide bombing at a mall in the coastal town of Netanya on Monday.

Israel said Arkan was responsible for several deadly attacks on Israelis and planning more said Israeli government spokesman Mark Regev. "The people we are targeting are only people who are involved, hands on, in terrorist attacks, people who are on the way to either send suicide bombers or to fire rockets into Israeli communities."

Regev told VOA that it is not retaliation, but rather, self-defense. "Our actions are defensive in that they're designed only to prevent terrorist attacks against Israeli citizens."

Palestinian officials condemned the suicide bombing but they say assassinations only add fuel to the fire. Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat appealed to both sides to uphold the 10-month-old ceasefire. "We must maintain the cessation of violence, we must maintain the quiet, and I hope the Palestinians will not react in the chain of reaction, action or action reaction."

A spokesman of the Palestinian Resistance Committees on Wednesday threatened revenge for the Israel Air Force. "We are ready to respond," PRC spokesman Mohammad Abad al-Gral said, "and the response will be hard and painful." He added that the PRC is committed to maintaining the ceasefire, but reserves the right to avenge attacks on its members.

Syria Halts Red Cross Plans to Accept Israel

By IsraelNationalNews.com

Syria has halted Red Cross plans to accept Israel in the organization unless Jerusalem allows Syrian ambulances to serve the Golan Heights. The move has delayed implementation of a decision by Geneva Convention members to allow Israel to use a new emblem on its ambulances instead of the Star of David (Magen David).

The new design is a red square standing on one corner, with a blank white interior and a thick red border. Magen David Adom would be allowed to place a red star in the center of the crystal for humanitarian missions at home and abroad if a host country allowed it.

Syria's move follows last week's agreement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority allowing each other to operate without interference. "We want to get a similar Israeli commitment to us similar to what they did with the Palestinians," Syrian Ambassador Bashar Ja'afari told the Associated Press.

Israel Orders Citizens to Immediately Leave the Sinai

By Ha'aretz

The anti-terror command at the Prime Minister's Office has called for all Israelis to leave the Sinai Peninsula immediately due to warnings that terrorist plan to kidnap vacationers. "In recent days the threat of Israelis being kidnapped in Sinai has worsened," said the statement from Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's office.

Two months ago, the anti-terror command issued a similar warning, recommending that Israelis refrain from crossing into Sinai, and calling on Israelis already there to return to Israel immediately.

Three months ago, the anti-terror command announced that the threat level for Israelis in Egypt, including the Sinai Peninsula, was at its highest.

Three terror attacks have been carried out in the Sinai Peninsula since October 2004. The first, at the Hilton Taba and two resorts in Ras Satan, killed 34 people, 12 of them Israelis. The second attack was carried out in three locations in Sharm el-Sheikh in July of this year, killing 88 people and wounding hundreds of others. The third attack, in August, targeted the Multinational Force and Observers in northern Sinai.

Egyptian security forces have apparently not been able to nab the terror cell operating in remote areas in the Sinai Peninsula. Egypt's tourism industry is vital to the country's economy. Egypt's Tourism Ministry would like to encourage Israeli tourism to Egypt, and Sinai in particular.

'Remember Never Again'

Blame the Jews

By Ed Ziegler (Commentary)

From the time of the crucifixion of Jesus Jews have been blamed for one thing or another. But during a span of 2,000 years in which we were targets of hatred by so many cultures and countries, Jews have used a variety of ways to cope.

Jews have repeatedly tried using the same methods time and time again to avoid persecution. A) Ignoring the abuse hoping it would go away. B) Relocating or C) Assimilating to hide in the crowd.

History has absolutely proven these methods are, at best, a temporary relief. Once again, even in the United States, anti-Semitism has been on the rise during the past 10 to 20 years. Before we can even hope to fight anti-Semitism we need to be willing to be aware of the hatred. The intent of this article is to show how malicious our enemies are in weaving their lies.

Yes probably everyone, Jew and non-Jew has heard something nasty said about Jews. However, until I started to take note of these hate claims, I never realized the extent of these accusations. Some are almost funny but all are vicious and intended to harm the Jewish people and Israel.

Why are lies dangerous? Simply because people believe the lies they hear or read. Last night I met a very friendly French couple, Christian and Michelle. They indicated they sympathized with the Palestinians. Why? Their Palestine refugee friend told them how his parents lost all their belongings in 1948 when the Jews confiscated their land and forced them to flee.

They had no idea that his parents could have stayed and kept their land, belongings and become Israeli citizens if they hadn't paid heed to the surrounding Arab nations urging them to leave.

Let us start with the almost funny. On Dec. 8, 2003 the San Diego Union-Tribune published James O. Goldsborough's column. His piece blames Israel and Jewish groups for causing anti-Jewish violence -- an interesting theory -- blame the victim.

Here are more interesting theories. You have Stalin's grandson who charged, "Zionists are ravaging Russia." And when the Malaysian currency was hard hit in 1997, whom do you think was blamed for that? The Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad said, "We do not want to say that this is a plot by the Jews, but in reality it is a Jew who triggered the currency plunge." He also said "The Jews would rob Palestinians. This is what they are doing to our country."

It is fascinating to listen to these prolific creators of lies. In an April 2004 article of the Egyptian government's daily paper, "Al-Gumhouriyya," titled 'The Secret Israeli Weapon,' it stated, "The Zionist Jews are behind all the violent and terror operations that have occurred everywhere in the world." The article also claims that the Jews leave signs to incriminate innocent Arabs and Muslims.

Did you know that Zionists and Jews were responsible for the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center according to the Saudi Interior Minister Prince Nayefas as reported by The Associated Press? It has also been claimed that the Israeli consulate warned 4,000 Jews to stay home on 9/11.

Then there is the most sickening lie of all -- The "Blood Libel." This first appeared in 1147 in Norwich England. And in 1171 in Blois, France, Jews, 34 men and 16 women, were dragged through the streets and burned alive. Blood Libel claims Jews kill Christian children so as to drain their blood to make matzo for Passover. One of the present day versions claims we make pastries with their blood.

Hate mongers, not only Arabs and Muslims, perpetuate the existing lies and continuously weave additional spiteful lies. Their intent is to destroy the Jewish people.

This being the case, it is the responsibility of every Jew to stand up and be counted to ensure "Never Again." Do nothing like our ancestors and anti-Semitism will find fertile grounds to cultivate more hatred toward the Jews. What do you want?
