Court rejects Fosamax patent in Favor of Israeli Drug Firm

By Israel Faxx News Service

Merck & Co. lost its bid to revive a patent that protected the once-a-week version of osteoporosis medication Fosamax, as the U.S. Supreme Court left alone a ruling to allow generic competition starting in 2008. The decision is a win for Israel-based Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., the generic drug maker that challenged the Merck patent. The patent in the case involved administration of the medication weekly, instead of daily, which was the original dosage. It would have covered the drug until 2018. The rejection by the court is a setback for brand name drug makers, according to the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers Association of America, which state in court documents that the ruling "substantially threatens the pace of continued innovation in the pharmaceutical industry."

Israel Suspends Security Contacts with Palestinians

By Jim Teeple (VOA-Jerusalem)

Israel on Monday temporarily suspended security contacts and all negotiations with Palestinian authorities following two attacks against Israeli settlers in the West Bank that left three Israelis dead. Israeli Defense officials have also re-imposed travel restrictions on Palestinians that had been temporarily lifted for Ramadan observances.

Israel reacted with anger and action following the attacks against settlers in the West Bank. Israel's Army sealed off the West Bank towns of Hebron and Bethlehem, close to where the attacks took place, and barred vehicle traffic by Palestinians on the main north-south road in the West Bank. Security officials say they are stepping up arrests of Palestinian militants. During the past month Israeli authorities have arrested about 700 Palestinians in the West Bank.

Mark Regev, a spokesman for Israel's Foreign Ministry says Israel will also temporarily suspend all security contacts and negotiations with the Palestinian Authority. "Obviously, we have had to take defensive measures to protect our civilians and also we wanted to send a very strong message to the Palestinian authority that they must get their act together, and they must start a process of following through on what they have promised to do and that is to disarm these terrorist groups."

Sunday's attacks came as Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is preparing to meet with President Bush on Thursday. A planned meeting between Abbas and Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was postponed last week, after Israeli and Palestinian negotiators could not agree on an agenda for the talks.

Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said he believes Sunday's attacks are designed to sabotage peace talks, but Israel's response will also not help move the process forward. "It is very unfortunate. It is unfortunate, because at a time when we attempt to revive the peace process there are those who are trying to sabotage these efforts, through the shooting incident yesterday," he said. "We need to work together to revive the peace process, to revive the committee's work, to revive the removing of roadblocks. Adding to the complexities, adding to the roadblocks, adding to the siege will not provide security. It will just add to the complexities."

Meanwhile, Israel's military intelligence chief has warned that foreign Islamic militants suspected of ties to the al-Qaida terror group have infiltrated the Gaza strip - something the Palestinian Authority has denied in the past.

Spanish Police Find Hideout of Nazi ´Dr. Death´

By IsraelNationalNews.com

Spanish police said they have found the hideout of Nazi criminal Abreit Heim, dubbed "Dr. Death," and that he may still be in the country, the German paper Der Spiegel reported. The 91-year-old Heim's hideout is in the northeastern area of Spain. "All we know is that he may have been in the area of Palafrugell recently," according to Spanish police spokesperson Joan Lopez.

He has eluded police and Nazi hunters for 43 years. He has amassed $2 million in bank accounts, which have helped him to live in various places, especially Germany, Argentina, Denmark, Brazil and Spain. Der Spiegel reported that investigators suspect a relative of Heim transferred $363,000 to an acquaintance in Spain, and Heim has been using that money to live there. The Simon Wiesenthal Center, named after the famed Nazi Hunter who recently died and was buried in Israel, said it has evidence that Heim's money is in a Berlin bank.

Heim officially was charged by Germany in 1962 with using lethal injections to kill a large number of Jews in Nazi concentration camps. He was termed "Dr. Death" for his experiments on Jews incarcerated in the Buchenwald and Mauthausen concentration camps. Although he never finished medical training, he operated on inmates without anesthesia to find out how much time it would take them to die after receiving poisonous injections of drugs and gasoline. Nazi camp survivors said he would hold a stopwatch while patients suffered before succumbing to the lethal injections.

Spanish police emphasized that they do not know where he is now, but Ha'aretz reported that police soon would arrest him. German authorities have offered a $159,000 reward for his arrest and the Wiesenthal Center has offered $12,200.

Leading Kabbalist Urges Jews to Israel - More Disasters Coming,

By IsraelNationalNews.com

Rabbi Yitzhak Kaduri said recently, "Jews must come to the land of Israel to receive our righteous Mashiach (Messiah), who has begun his influence and will reveal himself in the future."

It was during the Break Fast meal following Yom Kippur that several followers approached the 104-year-old leading known Kabbalist rabbi in Israel. A family member asked him about his remarks last month regarding natural disasters in the world. The rabbi said that the disasters are directly related to the redemption process, which will culminate in the coming of the Mashiach. He added that in the near future, another wave of natural disasters would strike the world.

Kaduri's grandson, Rabbi Yosef Kaduri had a private audience with the elder Rabbi, along with an Arutz-7 journalist who is closely linked to Kaduri's court. Rabbi Yosef Kaduri said to his grandfather, "Not many Jews are coming from overseas. Why should they come?" The Kabbalist answered, "Because of impending danger." Rabbi Yitzhak Kaduri then added a quote from Deuteronomy 4:15: "Be extremely protective of your lives."

According to Rabbi Yosef Kaduri and the Arutz-7 journalist, the Kabbalist elder referred to a known esoteric concept of a "struggle between the oceans," and said that the large oceans [Haokeanus hagadol] would strike the world. Rabbi Yosef Kaduri said that grandfather's warning includes were Jews of the Americas.

During the afternoon Mincha prayer on Yom Kippur, the Kabbalist scholar surprised his students and fellow worshippers with secrets relating to the coming of the Mashiach. During the service, Rabbi Kaduri lowered his head and entered a deep mystical concentration that lasted uninterrupted for some 45 minutes. The rabbi covered his eyes as though reciting the Sh'ma prayer and only his lips were seen moving.

Students who thought the elderly rabbi was suffering an attack of sort tried to communicate with him, but he did not break his intense concentration for a moment, even to nod. Only after some 45 minutes, the rabbi raised his head and looked around the room at the students and worshippers who were gathered at his Nachalat Yitzhak Yeshiva, in the Bucharim neighborhood of Jerusalem. With a broad smile on his face familiar to his students when he has a revelation, he declared, "With the help of God, the soul of the Mashiach has attached itself to a person in Israel" [In the original Hebrew: 'Hit'abra bezrat hashem nishmat mashiach b'adam m'yisrael'].

At the conclusion of his short declaration, murmuring was heard among the congregants as the Kabbalists' words were repeated for those who could not hear. Rabbi Kaduri has spoken repeatedly about the Final Redemption and referred to the calculations of the Vilna Gaon regarding the redemption, which appear in the Gaon's writings and are considered difficult to decipher. According to the writings of the Vilna Gaon, a sign of the Gog and Magog war is its breaking out on the Jewish holiday of Hoshana Rabba (the seventh day of the Sukkot holiday), just after the conclusion of the 7th or shemittah [agricultural sabbatical] year.

On September 24, 2001, Channel One Israel TV broadcast an item on what Torah and other mystics were saying in the wake of the World Trade Center attack. Speaking from the room adjacent to where Rabbi Yitzhak Kaduri receives visitors, Arutz Sheva Hebrew radio show host Yehoshua Meiri, a close confident of the Kabbalist, explained to the cameras Rabbi Kaduri's understanding of the events based on the calculations of the Vilna Gaon: "On Hashanah Rabba, the actual war of Gog and Magog will commence and will last for some seven years," said Meiri.

Precise to the minute, 13 days later on October 7th as the sun was setting and the Jewish holiday of Hoshana Rabba was ushered in, US and British forces began an aerial bombing campaign targeting Taliban forces and Al-Qaida. That year was the Hoshana Rabba just after the shemitta year of 5761.According to the calculation, a seven--year count from that Hoshana Rabba is the date of a major revelation associated with Mashiach. Those close to Rabbi Kaduri say in his name that the 5th year of this redemption process is now beginning.

They explain that the above-mentioned "attaching" of a righteous soul to a person of Israel makes the recipient a candidate for Mashiach, but not yet the actual Mashiach. This person gets an additional soul that finds expression in the adding of a letter to his name, without changing its pronunciation. The elder Rabbi Kaduri says that the letter added to this person's name is "vav" and the secret of his power is a Star of David hidden in his attire.

Before he reached the age of 13, the young Yitzhak Kaduri studied with the renowned Rabbi Yosef Chaim (the Ben Ish Chai) of Iraq. Rabbi Kaduri tells that the Ben Ish Chai blessed him that he would live to see the revelation of the Mashiach. The Ben Ish Chai passed away, and Rabbi Yitzhak Kaduri immigrated to Israel soon after.

Hamas 'Capable of U.S. Attacks'

By World Net Daily

Hamas has cells inside the United States that are technically capable of attacking the country, terrorism experts and senior security officials told World Net Daily.

The officials were responding to a WND exclusive interview last week in which Hamas chief Mahmoud al-Zahar warned President Bush's actions in the Middle East are "placing America in danger." "We have information Hamas agents have been on U.S. soil the past few years and that the group may currently have up to 100 agents operating inside America," an FBI counter terrorism agent in New York said, speaking on condition of anonymity since he is not authorized to talk to the media.

The comments reaffirm testimony to the U.S. Senate this past February in which FBI Director Robert Mueller stated, "Although it would be a major strategic shift for Hamas, its United States network is theoretically capable of facilitating acts of terrorism in the United States."

Mueller described a Hamas network the FBI believes may be operating in the U.S. mostly for fundraising purposes. While many suspected Hamas-linked charities such as the national Holy Land Foundation have been shut down, the FBI suspects others are still functioning in America. Holy Land was one of the largest Islamic charitable organizations in the U.S., and closed amid accusations the group was a front for Hamas.

Intelligence sources said the FBI believes Hamas' current U.S. network includes trained jihadists capable of carrying out advanced attacks. Some of the Hamas agents are suspected of involvement with al-Qaeda, the sources said.

Yehudit Barsky, director of the Middle East and International Terrorism Center at the American Jewish Committee said, "Hamas does have people in America who are Muslim Brotherhood-oriented who support Hamas and who could carry out attacks. ... This presence in the U.S. exists."

Terrorism expert Steve Emerson, whose research was credited with helping to close Holy Land, told WND, ". mostly revolving around the activities of fundraising, recruiting and training members, directing operations against Israel, organizing political support and operating through human rights front groups. While Hamas has not acted outside Israel, it has the capability of carrying out attacks in America if it decided to enlarge the scope of its operations," he said.

There have been recent indications Hamas indeed has agents operating inside the U.S. In August 2004, Ismail Selim Elbarasse, a long-time Hamas moneyman, was arrested reportedly after authorities witnessed his wife videotaping Maryland's Chesapeake Bay Bridge from their SUV as Elbarasse drove. The images captured by Elbarasse's wife included close-ups of cables and other features "integral to the structural integrity of the bridge," according to court papers.

In an FBI affidavit requesting a search warrant for Elbarasse's house obtained by WND, special FBI agent Shawn Devroude stated, "In previous years, al-Qaeda commanders and officials stationed in Western countries, including the United States, have recruited Hamas operatives and volunteers to carry out reconnaissance or serve as couriers."

With the increased law enforcement pressure since 9-11, there has been a renewed emphasis by al-Qaeda to find confirmed jihadist supporters in the U.S. by trying to enlist proven members of other groups such as Hamas to make up for the vacuum on the field level," he said.

Also in August of last year, two suspected high-level Hamas operatives, Mohammed Salah and Abdelhaleem Ashqar, were detained in America and charged with providing material support to Hamas, racketeering and money laundering. Ashqar, under house arrest in Virginia, denied to WND he was involved with Hamas fundraising and claimed doesn't know of any Hamas networks operating in America.

In November 2003, Jamal Aqal, a Canadian immigrant born in Gaza, was arrested in Israel under suspicion of receiving weapons and explosives training from Hamas for use in future terror attacks in Canada and New York City. Aqal pled guilty in 2004 to planning to kill American and Canadian Jewish leaders and Israeli officials traveling in the U.S.

Some analysts and counter terrorism officials are also worried al-Qaeda agents Israel says infiltrated the Gaza Strip may be working with Palestinian terror groups to carry out attacks both in Israel and abroad. IDF intelligence Chief Maj. Gen. Aharon Zeevi Farkash earlier this month confirmed Al-Qaeda operatives were present in Gaza, crossing in from its border with Egypt after Israel withdrew from the area.

Daniel Pipes, director of the Middle East Forum, points out what he says are other Hamas' ideological justifications for attacking America. In 2003, Pipes wrote, Hamas declared Bush "Islam's biggest enemy," and in 2004 called him "the enemy of God, the enemy of Islam and Muslims."

He also wrote that a 2004 Hamas press release announced, "Hamas considers the U.S. as an enemy and as an accomplice to the Israeli enemy aggression against the Palestinians. ... The U.S. will face responsibility for its position as an accomplice with Israel."
