100,000 Files Destroyed in Tel Aviv Rabbinical Court Fire

Officials are indicating Monday night's fire in the Tel Aviv Rabbinate Court Building was the result of arson, adding the blaze broke out in the archive section. An estimated 100,000 divorce files were totally or partially destroyed as a result. Many of the files are the only existing record of past or ongoing divorce proceedings, with officials explaining not all records were backed up or copied. There were no injuries in the fire but damage was extensive. The investigation continues.

Knesset Member Elon: Sharon is Violating a Covenant With God

By & Ha'aretz

Knesset Member Benny Elon (National Union) declared during his speech to the tens of thousands gathered in Gush Katif Wednesday that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is endangering lives and violating a divine covenant. "Sharon is committing two crimes," Elon said, "He is violating a covenant that God gave us as an eternal heritage and he is endangering lives by the very creation of a terrorist state."

Referring to the cemeteries in Gush Katif and Samaria, Elon said, "There are people here who paid a dear price. There is a cemetery here. In Damascus and in every place in the world there are Jewish cemeteries, but we have never heard of uprooting the graves of Jews."

Elon went on to say, "Even when the knife is on our chest, it does not prevent us from praying and asking for [divine] mercy. Every one of us must act with determination and dedication to save the nation from suicide and from this satanic [Disengagement] plan."

National Union MK Aryeh Eldad called on the activists to commit acts of non-violent civil disobedience to protest the pullout. "If they can't move freely in Gush Katif, then the entire country will be blocked and paralyzed," Eldad said, calling on protesters to physically block the evacuation. "I call for civil disobedience that involves readiness to be imprisoned." MK Matan Vilnai (Labor) said Eldad should have his immunity lifted so he could be indicted for his comments, which Vilnai said were likely to lead to the next assassination.

The head of the Yesha Council of settlements also called on protesters to disobey the army and police, which are making plans to prevent tens of thousands of protesters from getting into the settlement bloc this summer. "If it is decided to impose a siege on Gush Katif and northern Samaria [the West Bank], we will break the siege in every way, but not by force," said Bentzi Lieberman. "The struggle will take place in any place in which security forces try to stop the masses."

The army beefed up its forces in the Gush Katif area ahead of the rally, a demonstration viewed as a crucial test of strength for the movement, which had predicted a turnout of some 100,000 protestors. Crowd estimates late on Wednesday fell far short of the figure, with police assessing the total number as 40,000 and organizers setting the total at 60,000.

Vladimir Putin Comes to Israel

By Emanuel A. Winston (Commentary)

Why would any Jew believe the assurances of the KGB aka Vladimir Putin, Russia's current President? Putin is back to his Cold War mind-set, which includes arming the Muslim Arabs with SS18 ground-to-air missiles. SS18s are deadly and don't become less so because former KGB Putin says: "Not to worry."

KGB Putin is shipping nuclear fuel to Iran and building the first nuclear breeder plant at Bashar. KGB Putin doesn't care if Israel disappears tomorrow but, he does need the fiction that his Washington mouthpiece, President George Bush will keep believing Putin is his "Good Friend."

KGB Putin will push as far as the Washington president allows him. There are Big Oil stakes at play so the rogue dictators are playing the game for all it's worth. KGB Putin comes to Israel to lie to us and we pretend to believe him.

KGB Putin is like the rest of the infamous Quartet (led by the pro-Arab U.S. State Department, the anti-Semitic E.U.-European Union and the anti-Israel U.N.- United Nations). He has to join in the push or Putsch to move Israel out of the territories she liberated in 1967 in order to please the Arab client states and mollify the Bush Dynasty with the pretense that Russia is not going back to the days and tactics of the Cold War.

But, Putin has already energized many of the Soviet era tactics, to include stirring up trouble between the hostile radical Islamic States of Iran, Syria and then move into the Gulf Oil States. Bush in Washington just goes along, telling us about his "Good Friend" Putin, whom he can trust.

Israel's Prime Minister Ariel Sharon will, no doubt genuflect to KGB Putin and, like an oversized "Bubba" (Doll), Sharon will tell us that Putin is Our Friend in Israel - just as Sharon tell us now how he respects the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas (aka Abu Mazen).

We will, of course, hear from Ha'aretz, Ma'ariv, Yedioth Ahronoth, the radio and TV as to how great a man is KGB Putin and how Sharon has so much confidence in Putin's assurances. In the meantime, our great Bubba will accept the SS18s going to Syria and the nuclear fuel going to Iran like the gullible Bubba that he is.

Israel to Buy U.S.-made 'Bunker-Buster' Bombs

By Ha'aretz and Reuters

The Pentagon notified Congress on Tuesday of a proposed sale to Israel of 100 guided bunker-busting bombs, a weapon which would significantly upgrade the Israel Air Force's offensive operational capability and one which analysts said could prompt concerns about a unilateral Israeli strike against Iran. In a notice required by law for government-to-government military sales, the Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Israel had requested the sale of the Lockheed Martin Corp. GBU-28s, worth as much as $30 million.

The GBU-28 was developed for penetrating hardened command centers located deep underground and would be used by the Israeli air force on their U.S.-built F-15 aircraft, the agency said. Experiments have shown the two-ton bomb capable of penetrating as deep as 90 feet below the ground surface or an 18-foot-thick cement wall. The laser-guided bomb was originally developed during the first gulf war, when it was first put in action.

Israel has denied speculation that it might make a military strike on Iran to prevent it from producing an atomic bomb. In 1981 Israel sent jets to bomb an Iraqi reactor, driving Saddam Hussein's quest for a bomb underground, and fueling speculation of a similar strike on Iran.

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, in an interview with CNN earlier this month, said his country was not planning any military attack on Iran. Sharon, in a separate interview with Fox News, said: "Of course we take all precautions and all the steps to defend ourselves. But it's not that Israel should give the answer to the international problem" of Iran potentially developing a bomb. In January, U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney warned Israel could in the future try to attack Iran's nuclear facilities.

John Isaacs, president of the Council for a Livable World, said the proposed sale was clearly "a provocative step" that would prompt concerns about a unilateral Israel strike, particularly in Iran and elsewhere in the Middle East. "One could be suspicious that these bombs could be used for an Israeli attack on Iran," Isaacs said, noting that the bunker-busting bombs in question were nonnuclear, which limited their ability to dig far underground. "This particular munition is designed to destroy deeply buried high-value assets such as command centers or nuclear weapons facilities," agreed Loren Thompson at the Virginia-based Lexington Institute. "Draw your own conclusions."

The success of any such strike on possible Iranian nuclear facilities would depend on the quality of intelligence about the location of such facilities, as well as how far underground such sites were buried, Isaacs said. "It's not a slam-dunk in any way," he added.
