Witnesses: Israeli Air Raid Kills Two Palestinians

By VOA News

An explosion that ripped apart a vehicle in Gaza City Monday killed at least two Palestinians. Witnesses said missiles fired by an Israeli aircraft seen circling overhead hit the car. Israeli radio said the raid targeted two members of the Palestinian militant group Hamas. A separate Israeli missile strike killed a Hamas leader in Gaza City on Sunday. Meanwhile, masked gunmen have killed a Palestinian suspected of collaborating with Israel. The man was killed in a public execution seen by scores of onlookers in the West Bank town of Tulkarem. Residents said the body of a second alleged informer was found in a nearby rural area.

Ashrawi: "Peace and Justice" PA TV: "Kill The Jews"

While PA Chairman Yasir Arafat dispatches diplomats to promise peace in exchange for Israeli concessions, his TV station broadcasts a clear message to his Arab constituents: Kill the Jews.

This brief comparative study presents video footage released Monday of Arafat's primary spokesperson - Dr. Hanan Ashrawi - addressing an overseas audience in English alongside two TV programs broadcast last week in Arabic on PA TV. Ashrawi's message of "peace with justice for Palestine and Israel" did not translate over to the Arabic broadcast of outright incitement to murder Jews, "the brothers of monkeys and pigs."

In an eloquent address, Ashrawi declared: "Peace with justice is not an abstract value; it is a real determining factor of our lives. It is a most basic human right, and we appreciate everything you've done, in order not just to talk about peace with justice for Palestine and Israel, but also to act on that basis."

But while she was convincing an English-speaking audience that "peace with a real determining factor of our lives," a video address from the same Ramallah offices was broadcasting a very different message. Palestinian Media Watch captured footage of two PA TV programs in three days showing official religious leaders openly calling for the genocide of Jews.

In his sermon of Friday, Sept. 10th, televised on PA TV, Sheikh Ibrahim Madiras told the Arabs of Judea, Samaria, and Gaza: "The Prophet said: the Resurrection will not take place until the Muslims fight the Jews, and the Muslims kill them. The Muslims will kill the Jews, rejoice [in it], rejoice in Allah's Victory. The Muslims will kill the Jews, and he [the Jew] will hide. The Prophet said: the Jews will hide behind the rock and tree, and the rock and tree will say: oh servant of Allah, oh Muslim this is a Jew behind me, come and kill him.

"Why is there this malice? Because there are none who love the Jews on the face of the earth: not man, not rock, and not tree everything hates them. They destroy everything. They destroy the trees and destroy the houses. Everything wants vengeance on the Jews, on these pigs on the face of the earth, and the day of our victory, Allah willing, will come."

On Sept. 12th, Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Maadi on his weekly PA TV show, said: "We are waging this cruel war with the brothers of the monkeys and pigs, the Jews and the sons of Zion. The Jews will fight you, and you will subjugate them. Until the Jew will stand behind the tree and rock. And the tree and rock will say: oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him."

To support the mandatory killing of Jews, both religious leaders cited the same Hadith - a verse of Islamic tradition attributed to Mohammed - expressing Allah's will that Muslims kill Jews, before the "Hour" of Resurrection. The words of the Hadith: "The Hour [Resurrection] will not take place until the Muslims fight the Jews, and kill them. And the Jews will hide behind the rock and tree, and the rock and tree will say: oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, this is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!"

No Probe into Rabbi Who Offered to Place Curse on Sharon

By Ha'aretz

The Peace Now movement said Monday that the attorney general's decision not to investigate a rabbi who declared his readiness to place a kabbalistic curse on Prime Minister Ariel Sharon could lead to an assassination.

Attorney General Menachem Mazuz and State Prosecutor Eran Shendar decided Monday not to launch an investigation against Rabbi Yosef Dayan from the West Bank settlement of Psagot, who declared his readiness last week to carry out a kabbalistic "Pulsa Denura" ceremony to place a curse of death on Sharon.

"The head of the Shin Bet says there are people hoping for Sharon's death; I am one of them," Dayan said. "What, am I not allowed to hope?" Sources in the Justice Department said that although Dayan's remarks were "horrific," they do not constitute incitement.

Peace Now sharply criticized the attorney general's decision, saying that it "gives justification to the incitement and may lead to another political murder." A statement by the movement said that in view of Mazuz's decision, "It can be assumed that he wouldn't have taken action against banners in which prime minister Yitzhak Rabin was shown in an S.S. uniform." Right wing Jewish extremist Yigal Amir assassinated Rabin in 1995.

Dayan said last Tuesday that he would be willing to conduct the ceremony if other rabbis instructed him to do so, and added that when he was asked to perform the ceremony against former prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, he did so.

Madonna Calls for World Peace

By Israel Army Radio, Ha'aretz & Israel Faxx News Services

Pop star Madonna, who is so desperate to avoid being mobbed by photographers during her spiritual quest to Israel, visited Judaism's sacred Western Wall in the middle of the night. The Material Girl joined 2,000 fellow followers of the Kabbalah to celebrate the start of the Jewish New Year.

But Madonna remained inside her car when they arrived at the Western Wall, where the biblical temples once stood, and admired the spectacle from afar -- much to the disappointment of many visitors." Why did she not come out of the car? We were waiting for her," said Hadass Chen, who made the trip to see the singer. "You don't feel the vibe if you don't touch the wall."

The singer -- who is an avid follower of the mystical Jewish offshoot -- paid homage to Kabbalist sage Rabbi Yehuda Ashlag with her film director husband Guy Ritchie at the Kiryat Shaul cemetery, and held a ceremony at his grave, before heading off to the Western Wall. After midnight prayers at the grave of a rabbinical sage, songstress Madonna on Monday called for world peace at a conference on Kabbalah, Jewish mysticism, a highlight of her five-day visit to Israel.

Critics have accused the pop singer of desecrating their religion. The singer, who also answers to Esther since her conversion, began studying the Kabbalah seven years ago in Los Angeles. The study of Kabbalah has become increasingly popular among celebrities, including pop singer Britney Spears and Hollywood actress Demi Moore, who also sport red strings on their wrists. In Judaism, Kabbalah means literally "what has been handed down" - writings dating to the Middle Ages and oral teachings that are held by the faithful to describe the true nature of God and man and reveal the secrets of Creation.
