Tired, sad, and with frayed nerves, some still wearing khaki uniforms dusty from the past days' battles, convoys of SLA soldiers and their families have arrived at the Amnon Holiday Village on the northern Kinneret shore, refugees fleeing for their lives, leaving everything behind.
The pastoral holiday village became an absorption center for those who, just days ago, were officers, soldiers, security personnel, and their families. Bus after bus dropped off refugees and they all spoke of their feeling of being cheated and lied to.
Operation Shield & Cedar is the name for the absorption of the SLA personnel and their families, and is being carried out by various government ministries and the Security Authority of the General Security Service (GSS/Shin Bet). Yesterday, the refugees were transferred to hotels and holiday sites, until they are relocated in rented apartments in the north.
The absorption process went slowly. Despite their exhaustion and wariness, the Lebanese refugees waited patiently for the process to continue, meeting with representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, the Health Ministry, and the National Insurance.
A dining hall was set up to feed the crowd, and clowns were brought to entertain the children. Israeli Arab relatives of the Lebanese refugees waited to accept and aid their family members. "These people lost everything in one day, after giving years of their life to helping Israel," stated one of those helping with the absorption.

Residents of the settlements near Jericho Tuesday damaged cars belonging to Israelis visiting the Oasis Casino, in protest of the terrorist firebombing in Jericho at the beginning of the week. They decided to "punish" the gamblers by letting the air out of their tires.
After the injuries caused to the child Shalev Shabbat by the firebomb thrown on her mother's car while driving through Jericho, the IDF closed the roads into Jericho to Israeli and tourist traffic. However, those coming to gamble parked their cars in the lot at Almog Junction, outside Jericho, and went by Arab taxi to the casino.
The residents announced they would try to prevent Israelis from coming to the casino until those responsible for the firebombing are apprehended. Letting the air out of the tires was their first step. They are prepared to burn the cars, saying that anyone who is not ashamed of coming to Jericho to gamble must risk not having a way to get home.

In what is believed to be another Israeli first, a private citizen has been authorized to grow cannabis, marijuana, in his home.
The citizens turned to officials in the Ministry of Health, documenting his medical condition and severe chronic pain. He requested permission to raise the plant, explaining the byproduct would assist him in alleviating the pain from his illness. Health officials reviewed the medical documentation and the facts in the case, deciding to approve the request on medical grounds, realizing the use of the marijuana would be medicinal in this case.
The deputy director of the ministry, Dr. Boaz Lev, together with Yehoshua Shoffman, a senior official in the State Attorney General's Office approved the request.

Two Israeli Arabs have been arrested under suspicion of attempting to steal weapons and ammunition from an IDF base in the north, in order to carry out a terror attack on Israeli citizens. They are being held until the end of trial.
The two are brothers, Sammy and Abed Al-ganem Assad, 20 and 26, from the Ichsel village near Afula. They were arrested at the end of April, after attacking two lovers nearby the base that they broke into. The information concerning the arrest was just allowed for publication.
The attacked couple told police that the Arabs said that they belonged to the Hizbullah, and were angry that the man, an Israeli Arab was together with a Jewish woman. The couple was able to describe the two for the police, which led to the arrests.
According to the indictment, on April 25th Assad arrived at the IDF base, cut through the fence, and entered the base, where he began hiding various weapons and ammunition, which he planned to pick up later. The next day he returned to the base with his brother to pick up the hidden weaponry. Before entering the base, they noticed the couple, attacked them, threatened them and ran them off.
