Americans wishing to electronically sign a petition demanding the release of Jonathan Pollard may do so at http://www.e-hepeople.com/petition.cfm?PETID=325143. "We demand that you release former US Naval Intelligence officer Jonathan Pollard from prison on the grounds that even though he spied for a friendly country, i.e. Israel, that he nevertheless received a punishment worse than for spying for an enemy country (like, e.g., the now-defunct Soviet Union when it was a Communist country). Pollard's activities actually deterred Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and yet Pollard was not rewarded for it."

Following the killing of a seventh Israeli soldier in recent weeks, Israel may pull its troops out of Lebanon as early as April. Prime Minister Ehud Barak was elected last May on a promise of ending 18-years of Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon by July.
Now those who favor an even earlier Israeli withdrawal have been joined by opposition leader Ariel Sharon, who as defense minister masterminded Israel's 1982 Lebanon invasion. The strategy then was to occupy the Lebanese border strip to prevent terrorist attacks on Israel.
Now, along with a growing number of Israelis, Sharon says he feels the price of staying in Lebanon has become too high. Situations change, he said in a statement. He added, "Our posts in Lebanon have become anachronistic and we must get out."
Israel buried its seventh soldier killed in south Lebanon in two-weeks. Israel's response to the latest round of Hizbullah guerrilla attacks on its forces was to launch massive strikes on Lebanese infrastructure facilities. One mission knocked out power plants that provided electricity to large sections of Lebanon. Israeli civilians slept in shelters in fear of cross-border shelling.
When the terrorists finally appeared to be holding their fire, Israeli officials credited Damascus with restraining them. The Israeli cabinet discussed the Lebanon situation (Sunday). It announced it would discuss withdrawal again in April, which has been mentioned by several senior officials as a preferable withdrawal date.
Israeli public opinion has made a broad swing in the past several months from being split over the Lebanon issue, to clearly supporting a troop pullout.

Teams of security inspectors will be dispatched abroad next month to conduct security searches on groups of Christian pilgrims planning to visit Israel during the official visit of Pope John Paul II. The new arrangement will expedite handling the many visitors passing through Ben-Gurion International Airport.
A total of 800 buses will be deployed in the airport to accommodate the unprecedented number of visitors. Tourism Minister Amnon Lipkin-Shahak stated 500,000 pilgrims are expected during March. The buses, many being taken off of regular public bus lines, will transport the pilgrims to hotels or any other designation predetermined by tour operators.
According to a senior official at Ben-Gurion, the visitors will not pass through the airport's arrival terminal, but will be directed through the "bypass route" being activated for the unprecedented visit.

"I also want to go out like mommy," a 7-year-old told police on the phone. His mother prior to her going out on the town locked the young boy in the home. The boy decided that he wanted to go out as well and picked up the phone to tell police of his plight.
The boy told Eilat police that he was scared to remain home alone. Police found the lad sitting on the windowsill of the third floor apartment, refusing to comply with requests to go inside.
Police called upon firefighters for assistance who broke into the apartment and the boy was safely removed form the windowsill and taken to his grandmother's home. When police tracked down the mother, at 3 a.m., she was intoxicated and was quoted as saying, "Why can't I go out and party. He has his friends and I have mine."
