Israel has expressed its concern to China that Iran's weapons arsenal poses a threat to the Jewish state. Prime Minister Ehud Barak, in a meeting with Li Peng, China's second most powerful leader, asked China to stop selling arms to Iran.
"The prime minister discussed regional threats to Israel and particularly emphasized the danger posed by the build-up of arms by Iran," Barak's office said in a statement after the meeting. The statement quoted Peng as telling Barak in response that "his country has normal ties with Iran."
Israel and the United States has frequently expressed concerns that China was transferring military technology to Iran, which is reportedly developing a long-range missile capability that can reach the Jewish state.
According to the prime minister's office, Barak and Peng agreed to bolster technology, trade and agriculture ties. Peng also invited Barak to visit China.

An angry Prime Minister Ehud Barak has vowed that the controversial Law of Return "will not be discussed nor amended" during his term.
Barak's assertion followed statements by Shas activists in Bet Shemesh, last week, accusing Russians of bringing "defilement" into the country. Those statements were later defended by Shas party leaders and even prompted calls for amendments to the law, which permits all children of Jewish descent to immigrate to Israel.
During Sunday's Cabinet meeting, Barak reportedly pounded his fist on the table in responding to comments by Health Minister Shlomo Benizri (Shas) that there are "phenomena of depravity and prostitution among the new immigrants" from the former Soviet Union.
Russian Jews, following recent revelations that the majority of immigrants now arriving at Israel's shores have no intention of becoming Jewish, are demanding a change in clause 4A of 'The Law of Return' which allows immigrants to enter Israel under "The Law of Return" if one of their grandparents is Jewish.
