Leah Rabin, the widow of slain prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, has issued another statement intended to discredit persons aligned with the Israeli political right-wing. Rabin, a fervent opponent of the Jewish communities in Judea, Samaria and Gaza, issued a warning against the possibility of a suicide terrorist attack to be carried out be a "settler," a resident of a Yesha community.
Rabin stated that a conspiracy to kill the current Labor Party prime minister may be in the works and security officials must realize that her late husband was the mentor of Prime Minister Ehud Barak, a proponent of the ideals of Yitzhak Rabin and the Oslo process.
"There could indeed be one who will do an act of suicide," the 71-year-old Rabin told Galei Tzahal \Army Radio. Rabin did not hesitate to draw a comparison to Hamas suicide attackers who in the past blew themselves up on Israeli buses, killing dozens of innocent persons.
Defense establishment officials admit that Rabin's statements were not based on any intelligence information pointing to a planned Jewish attack.
The prime minister earlier in the week held a meeting with the director of the GSS (General Security Service Shin Bet) Ami Ayalon, seeking to maintain a watchful eye on persons affiliated with the political right-wing whom are considered to be "extremists."
Rabin continues to feed the fires of hatred against the Yesha supporters by pointing out that residents of encampments in Yesha slated to be uprooted by the government have indicated they will oppose efforts to remove them. One encampment resident said that it was absurd that a government can oppose a policy of 'transfer' of Arab citizens while the cabinet ministers openly support the 'transfer' of Jewish residents, giving them relatively short notice to pack their bags and leave their homes.
Following the assassination of the late prime minister, Leah Rabin did not hesitate to incite hatred against the Orthodox and right-wing residents of the country despite the fact it was established that convicted assassin Yigal Amir acted alone and did not belong to any large conspiracy as indicated by Rabin. In addition, Rabin stated on more than one occasion that she would prefer her offspring marry and Arab rather than members of the right-wing Orthodox community.

A member of the Syrian armed forces, Ibrahim Yousef, 23, on Tuesday morning crossed into Israel requesting political asylum. IDF soldiers stationed on Mount Hermon saw the man approaching in civilian clothing, signaling that he was unarmed.
The soldier turned himself over to IDF soldiers who in turn involved Israel police. The Syrian infiltrator was sentenced to a four-month jail term by the Safed Magistrate's Court for illegally entering into Israel.
Yousef told interrogators that he was having ongoing problems with his commander and made the decision to flee for his own safety. He added that his $2 a month salary as a soldier was not sufficient and was forced to work in construction to supplement his income to make a living.
Officials have indicated that Yousef would most likely not be deported but a country willing to accept him would be sought following his serving his jail term.

"Playboy" is planning its entrance into the Israeli market, through a satellite-broadcasted nightly television show, an Israeli Internet site, videocassette distribution, and merchandising.
Playboy's plans will make its material more available to Israelis than ever before. Until now, the Israeli cable TV viewer had to wait for the weekend to watch "blue movies" on the German and Luxembourg satellite stations. The monthly charge for the Playboy station will be NIS 20, comparably cheaper than the US $9.99 or the Japanese $25. They hope that at least 200,000 Israeli households will subscribe, based on surveys undertaken in Israel in recent months.
The Playboy station will broadcast from 10 p.m.-8 a.m. each day, but the plan is to increase broadcast hours up to 24 hours a day. The broadcasts will include local, Israeli productions.
Playboy is being brought to Israel by a company headed by several investors, including businessman Yair Hasson, head of "Burger King" in Israel. Hasson confirmed that negotiations with Playboy are in the final stages, and that broadcasting is planned for April 2000.
The Playboy station will broadcast films from its considerable library, but to give the station an Israeli flavor, an Israeli hostess will be chosen to man the studio. The investors hope to find an experienced broadcaster for the job, but realize that not every woman wants Playboy as part of her professional resume.
As for the first Israeli Playboy bunny, anyone interested in the title would have to undergo the same course as American bunnies, first being chosen for exposure in Playboy magazine, and then progressing to television. The competition is tough.
