Hillary Clinton Postpones Israel Visit

By Arutz-7 News Service

Hillary Rodham Clinton has postponed a trip to Israel scheduled just days before she is to open the exploratory phase of her Senate campaign for New York state, home to America's largest Jewish community. The First Lady's office said in a statement the State Department had advised a delay to prevent the visit from interfering with Prime Minister-elect Ehud Barak's continuing efforts to build a ruling coalition. Her controversial remarks last year in favor of Palestinian statehood caused a stir among Israelis opposed to the concept, and have threatened to affect her standing among the more than one million registered Jewish voters in and around New York City.

Palestinians Want All Or Nothing At All

By Arutz-7 News Service

IMRA reports that Nabil Sha'ath, head of the Planning Department in the Palestinian Authority, told Egypt's Al-Ahram newspaper last week, "There can be no peace without a total end to settlements and the return of East Jerusalem to Palestinian sovereignty as our capital. We are willing to negotiate the terms regarding open borders between East and West Jerusalem, but an agreement must be based on the premise that what was occupied in 1967 must be returned... We are not only against settlements being built now, but also those that were built as long as 30 years ago."

Iran Says Spying Arrests Were Non-Sectarian

By Max Ruston (VOA-United Nations)

Iran is rejecting allegations that its arrest of 13 Iranian Jews on spying charges was motivated by religious factors. The statement follows calls by US religious leaders for the release of the alleged spies.

A statement released by the Iranian Mission to the United Nations says calls for the immediate release of the 13 Iranian Jews are the equivalent of demanding immunity from prosecution for the accused on account of their religion. The statement says the calls are absurd and irresponsible.

It follows a series of statements by civil rights leader Jesse Jackson as well as Christian and Jewish leaders urging the release of the Jews. On Monday, Jackson tried to arrange a meeting with Iran's United Nations representative. Iran rejected his request.

The suspects were arrested in the southern city of Shiraz last week on charges of participating in what Iran calls a "Zionist" spy network. Israel has denied the suspects were spying on its behalf.

The Iranian statement says those arrested were part of a larger group of people, that includes both Muslims and Jews and that the arrests were carried out irrespective of the religious beliefs of the suspects.

Attorney General Rules IDF May Not Use Corpses for Learning

By IsraelWire

A ruling by State Attorney General Elyakim Rubinstein says the military may not use the bodies of deceased military personnel for the purpose of medical procedures to teach personnel or permit them to maintain proficiency in their skills.

The issue was brought to the attorney general following a complaint filed by Dr. Haim Buzgalo, whose son fell in the line of duty. Buzgalo told Israel television Monday that after he and his wife were asked if the body of their son may be used for learning purposes, and they refused in writing, he found out that the army did use the body against his wishes.

Dr. Yehuda Hiss, who heads the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute, has insisted that the procedures done on some of the bodies does not constitute an autopsy, and stood by his actions explaining that the bodies enable medical professionals to maintain the proper level of medical expertise.

Buzgalo stated that in 1,200 medical schools around the world, including four in Israel, cadavers are purchased for $80 to permit students to learn anatomy and maintain proficient in skills. He rejected any attempt to justify the 'abuse' of bodies against expressed will of a family.

Female wardens will soon be assigned to security and prisoner-care duties for male prisoners in criminal prisons throughout the country. The female wardens will fill the same positions as male wardens, including 24-hour shifts.

The new policy was decided upon after a trial period in two of the country's prisons for criminal prisoners, Ashmoret and Nitzan. The female wardens who will be working in the men's prisons will have at least two years experience in the women's Neve Tirtza prison.
