On Monday, security personnel responsible for protecting the gates leading to the 'sterile' runway areas abandoned their posts over a work dispute. Israel Airports Authority security personnel replaced the security agents who left the posts unmanned. Airport security officials report the incident was among the most serious they have seen and the security personnel employees of the "Amishav" Company, acted in an unacceptable fashion, compromising the security of the area.

One of the rabbis closest to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu,
Rabbi Moshe Ben-Tov, compared Yitzhak Rabin, before his death, to
Hitler.
In a speech given by the rabbi before Rabin's death, Ben-Tov said:
"In every generation there is a Pharaoh. Pharaoh now stands for
Peres, Rabin, Arafat, and Hitler, but they will all die. First
Hitler died, then will come the rest." The speech was recorded on
a videocassette in 1995, and was shown on Israeli television news
Tuesday.
Ben-Tov, known as "the reader of mezuzot," recently changed all the
mezuzot (parchment scrolls affixed to all doorposts) in the prime
minister's office.
The prime minister's office responded to the broadcasting of
Ben-Tov's videocassette, saying that what Ben-Tov said was not
appropriate, and that Netanyahu emphatically condemns what was
said.
The "One Israel" party also condemned Ben-Tov's speech, as did the
Meretz party. Meretz leader Yossi Sarid stated that Ben-Tov is one
of the persons on a list of those who incited the killing of Rabin
and were never properly investigated. Sarid said that he would
publish the list after the elections.

Arafat - The unshaven old man is no longer "the arch-terrorist," as he used to be called by Voice of Israel, but he will forever remain an arch-terrorist in retirement. We must therefore not allow his horrific past to be forgotten by using the respectable title "Chairman," but we'll rather call him just "Arafat."
Boy - According to the authoritative [Hebrew] Even-Shushan
dictionary, "boy" means "a male from the time he is born until the
age of Bar Mitzvah. Accordingly, when our forces harm a 16-year
old Arab, we need not be dragged under by the Arab propagandists
and report, "An Arab boy was wounded by IDF fire."
Disturbances - Euphemistic language for violent protest activities
on the part of Arabs in the West Bank is part of the linguistic
effort to grant a form of legitimacy to this violence. The more
correct term is "riots."

The IDF is continuing medical experimentation on soldiers. The ethics committee of the army's medical corps authorizes the various experiments and sets their conditions. The general rule for participation in the experiments is clear: no soldier can be forced to take part in an experiment against his well.
Along with experimenting with various medications, physiological
experiments are also conducted. Such experiments examine, for
example, the limits of endurance, or how temperature, exertion, or
heavy loads affect fitness.
In 1995, for example, the soldiers of the Armored Division in the
western sector of the security zone in Lebanon took part in an
experiment to test the level of alertness in soldiers under
conditions of lack of sleep. The soldiers were connected to
monitors and asked to perform various activities after many
hours without sleep.
In July of 1997, the soldiers of an elite unit were asked to march
for eight hours straight in a controlled atmosphere laboratory
while each one had a thermometer inserted in his rectum. This
experiment was intended to examine the amount of water needed by
soldiers under moderate heat conditions.
Despite the prohibition against forcing soldiers to participate in
medical experiments, there have been cases which brought doubts as
to a soldier's ability to say "no" to participating in an
experiment in which most of his fellow soldiers have agreed to take
part in. There have also been cases of soldiers' parents forbidding
their sons' participation in such experimentation

According to health officials, the Huggies, Fresh Ones and
Balloons type baby wipes contain formaldehyde, used by cosmetic
firms to extend the shelf life of a product.
Health officials explain the highly toxic substance was banned and
has been documented in the past as being responsible for adverse
reactions including local rashes and other allergic reactions.
According to the manufacturers of Fresh Ones and Balloons, the
wipes do not contain the substance, which have been banned in
Israel and the United States, and the tests in Israel must have
produced erroneous results. Manufacturers have called upon Israeli
officials to conduct the tests a second time.
In addition, health officials add that Fresh Ones contained
unacceptable levels of bacteria and consumer advocates have called
for the Health Ministry to launch an investigation.
