Unprecedented security measures are being taking at the PLO
Authority airport, in Gaza, in anticipation of Yasir Arafat's first
international flight from the airport. The PA fears that elements
opposed to the peace process will try to shoot down Arafat's plane.
They have taken special security precautions and trained special
security agents for the airport.
IsraelWire reported earlier, that the airport will be inaugurated
Tuesday. There was some controversy over which airline company
would be the first to use the airport. Morocco asked for the honor,
but it appears that an Egyptian plane will be first on the runway.
The head travel agent for the PA airline said that a one-way ticket
from Dahaniya to Amman will cost $121. Israelis are forbidden to
use the services of the Dahaniya airport.
An Israeli airline has requested to land a plane with an Israeli
flag on it during the inauguration ceremony of the new airport
Tuesday. According to the Jerusalem Post, the airline is not the
nation's two largest, El Al or Arkia, but it was acknowledged that
a smaller airline did make the request.
According to senior PA security official Mohammed Dahlan, the PA
expects 10 flights from Europe and the Arab world to land tomorrow.
Egypt, Germany, Holland, Morocco, and Spain, are among the
countries which intend to send planes for the opening ceremony.

According to officials at the Center for Crisis Intervention
serving the Orthodox community, the number of complaints from women
over the past year has increased 334 percent.
The organization deals with members of the Orthodox community
around the country who fall victim to sexual assaults, abuse or any
form of domestic violence.
This year, the organization received 379 complaints of sexual attacks, 588 complaints of "distress or immediate crisis" and 329 calls for general assistance. In total, the center received 1,296 calls for assistance compared to 298 during the same time one year earlier. The nationwide hotline for abused or assaulted women registered a 35 percent increase this year as compared with last year.
Authorities report the increased numbers indicate that more women
are being assaulted but equally important, more women are now
willing to come forward and make a report. On the other hand,
police estimate that only 16,000 of some 200,000 battered wives
file complaints with police annually.

The husband of a Haifa woman who is seeking a divorce announced he
intends to sue her for NIS tens of thousands since she failed her
road test 15 times, and it was he who paid for all her driving
lessons and road tests. The husband stated his wife took driving
lessons for six years and took no less than 15 road tests until she
finally received her license to operate a motor vehicle.
The husband made his demands in a letter sent to his wife via his
lawyer, explaining that it would only be fair that at this time,
she repaid him for the expenses incurred in her obtaining the
license. He stated that when their case comes before the rabbinical
court, he will contest giving her a divorce until she agrees to pay
for the lessons.

Jerusalem councilman Ornan Yekutieli has called upon police to take
swift and stern action against members of the Eida Chareidit
Rabbinical Council Modesty Patrol, suspected in an arson attack
Saturday night in the apartment of a Jerusalem resident.
The victim of the attack, a 17-year-old resident of the
predominately Orthodox neighborhood of Shmuel HaNavi, managed to
escape unharmed after midnight when his apartment was set ablaze.
The apartment sustained heavy damage as a result of the blaze.
About three weeks ago, the man was beaten, allegedly by members of the modesty squad, for his choosing to stop leading an Orthodox way of life and today is a member of the secular community.
Two weeks ago, hundreds of Orthodox area residents raided two
apartments located at on Meah Shearim Street, in Jerusalem, where
they threw the contents of the apartments out to the street below,
and set them ablaze.
In that attack, it appears the local residents were taking action against Christian missionaries who they say are actively working to win over Orthodox children in the area.
