Members of the Chabad/Lubavitch chassidic sect took to the streets
Sunday night and obstructed traffic in Jerusalem. The protestors
carried signs saying, "Bibi is bad for the Jews." They called upon
the prime minister and the government to keep its promises,
referring to a pre-election letter signed by the prime minister, in
which he promises the Chabad leaders that he will not give away
portions of Israel to a foreign government.

Foreign Minister Ariel Sharon urged Jewish residents of communities throughout Judea and Samaria to grab more land to prevent it from being taken by the PLO Authority.
"Everyone should take action, should run, should grab more hills. We'll expand the area. Whatever is seized will be ours. Whatever isn't seized will end up in their hands. That's the way it will be ...That's what must be done now," Sharon told a political gathering.
The statement came three days before Israel is scheduled to begin implementation of the 13.1 percent land withdrawal from areas throughout the West Bank.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu says he has suspended Israel's next troop withdrawal in the West Bank until Palestinian leader Yasir Arafat drops plans to declare an independent state in May.
Netanyahu made the announcement in a speech that opened
parliamentary debate on the US brokered agreement -- under which
Israel is supposed to return another 13 percent of West Bank land
to the Palestinians.
The prime minister is angry about a speech and radio address by
Arafat Sunday in which he renewed a pledge to declare statehood in
May and also said Palestinians could resume their armed struggle,
or intifada, if Israel strayed from the peace process. A senior
Palestinian official said Arafat was not advocating violence.
Israel denies it is trying to identify genes unique to Arabs in order to target them with a biological weapon that would leave Jews unharmed. London's Sunday Times had reported that Israeli scientists were trying to create a genetically modified bacterium or virus that only attacks people who carry specific genes.
David Bar-Illan, a senior aide to Prime Minister Binyamin
Netanyahu, rejected the report, saying such stories only proved
"that there is no limit to human gullibility and also no limit to
the desire to sell newspapers."
Asked if he was denying the report, Bar-Illan told The Associated
Press, "This is the kind of story that does not deserve denial."
The report, attributed to unidentified Israeli military and Western
intelligence sources, said the weapon is seen as Israel's response
to the threat of chemical and biological warfare from Iraq and
could be spread by air or through the water supply.
The newspaper said the program is based at the biological institute
in Nes Tziona, which it described as the main research facility for
Israel's chemical and biological weapons. According to the report,
researchers have pinpointed "a characteristic in the genetic
profile of certain Arab communities, particularly the Iraqi
people." Officials at Porton Down, Britain's biological defense
facility, told the newspaper such weapons were theoretically
possible.

In what is being called a pilot program of a new plan to require Arab citizens to do national service, the Prime Minister's Office is completing plans of a new program designed to cater to the Arab population.
The plan will require that 18-year-old Arabs, male and female, be
required to enlist in a three year national service program.
Officials in the Prime Minister's Office explain the plan is
designed to afford Arab citizens to better integrate into society.
The plan is scheduled for completion in the coming months, and
according to Tourism Minister Moshe Katzav, who is responsible for
the Arab affairs portfolio, the plan is moving along nicely and he
is optimistic that it will be a good one offering the Arab
community additional opportunities.

At least six members of Jerusalem's chareidi (ultra-Orthodox) community have been arrested stemming from a violent attack that took place last week. Police call the attack on a Meah Shearim apartment of two Swiss Christian women a "well planned incident." According to the report, hundreds of chassidic Jews from Meah Shearim came to the home of the women, suspected of actively engaging in missionary activities in the area, and threw appliances and other belongings from the balcony of the fourth floor apartment.
The group then set the items on the street below ablaze, as well as
the contents of the apartment. The women escaped unharmed. When
police arrived, the chassidic Jews attacked them with bottles and
stones. This is when most of the arrests were made. Police reported
finding missionary literature among the remains in the apartment.
