Lawyers representing Holocaust survivors filed a class-action
lawsuit in New York federal court against German companies that
used slave labor during the Nazi era. The suit alleges that the
companies that helped fuel the Nazi war machine used Holocaust
victims as slave labor and profited from such forced labor.
Among the powerful firms named in the lawsuit are the electronics
giant "Siemens," steel maker "Krupp-Hoesch," camera manufacturer
"Leica," and automakers "Audi, BMW, Daimler-Benz and Volkswagen."
Lawyer Maurice Rattner says the lawsuit is based on U.S. common law
and international human rights laws. "We have distributed copies of
the complaint. It alleges a conspiracy between certain German
industrial companies and the Nazi regime to use slave labor,
knowingly use Holocaust victims from concentration camps as slave
laborers."
Rattner says the 18 plaintiffs are filing on behalf of all of the
Holocaust survivors who were slave laborers who are still alive and
on behalf of the heirs of Holocaust victims who died. The
attorneys estimate there are still tens of thousands of Holocaust
survivors around the world.
Plaintiff Morris Newman was 14 years old when he was sent to work
in the "Messerschmitt" company, helping to make planes. "We worked
from six o'clock in the morning to six o'clock at night. The work
was miserable. It was winter everything was outdoors. We were
freezing to death. My clothing was just a jacket and a pair of
pants. I do not know how I survived this to be honest about it."

Arab residents of Judea and Samaria told Ma'ariv that the PLO
Authority police maintain a reign of terror, with rape, theft,
torture, and degradation as part of their arsenal of cruel
behavior. Those willing to testify about the PA police behavior,
fearing for their own lives, agreed to do so only on condition of
anonymity.
One person described the raping of married women. The Secret
Service calls in a man for investigation; meanwhile a police
officer goes to the man's home, orders the wife into a bedroom and
rapes her, while threatening that if she does not give in, her
husband will not be released from police custody. The raped women
are afraid to speak out, out of fear of the police.

According to the JTA, additional crosses are being erected at the
site of the former Auschwitz death camp, and the pleas of the chief
rabbis of Israel and others, remain ignored by the Vatican.
According to the report, "Roman Catholic militants" are placing
over 150 crucifixes at the site.
A Vatican spokesperson told JTA that it was unlikely that
Polish-born Pope John Paul II would make a pronouncement on the
issue or that the Vatican would soon express a public position.
"The matter is not under the jurisdiction of the Vatican," the
spokesperson said in an interview. "We refer everyone to the Polish
bishops."

Black holes in space can no longer be considered to be gateways to
other universes, according to new research conducted by Hebrew
University physicists Prof. Tsvi Piran and doctoral student Shachar
Hod. The research, a breakthrough in relativity theory, has just
been published in the "Physical Review Letter."
Using super-computers, Piran and Hod mathematically re-enacted the
processes involved in the formation of black holes and determined
that, in contradiction to earlier expectations, it is not possible
to pass safely through such bodies. Black holes are areas in space
with tremendous gravitational pull, sucking in any celestial bodes
in their vicinities -- including light waves, which cannot be
reflected outwards, thus making the black holes invisible.
Since the 1960s, researchers believed it is possible to avoid the
"vacuum" effect of the black hole and pass though safely. The new
revelation disproves this notion, and, as Piran said, "alternatives
will have to be found for those wishing to pass through to other
universes."

In Akko, an 8-year-old girl fell from an eighth floor laundry porch and landed on a plastic roof on the sixth floor. She miraculously survived, suffering only minor scratches. The girl had wanted to reach a shirt that had dried on the laundry lines, and leaned out too far.
She fell through a plastic roof covering the seventh floor porch
and hit the roof of the sixth floor porch. Her brothers hurried to
the sixth floor apartment and pulled their sister to safety. She
was examined by a Magen David Adom ambulance crew, and found to
have only minor scratches. Police and neighbors who crowded the
site called it a miracle from heaven.
