Israel Faxx Staff Report
Saudi millionaire Osama bin Laden, the alleged mastermind of the US
embassy bombings in Africa, directed his followers at least twice
to kill President Clinton, but neither attempt was ever made. The
first assassination attempt was to take place when Clinton visited
the Philippines in November 1994, but it was abandoned because of
heavy security. Ramzi Yussef, later convicted in the 1993 World
Trade Center bombing, was to have been the hit man.

A bomb exploded Thursday morning in Tel-Aviv. The device, weighing
one to two pounds, exploded inside a trash can just outside the
Great Synagogue on Allenby Street near Rothschild Boulevard.
Arutz-7 reports the number of injured reached at least 21. Two people are in moderate condition, while the others, including two children, were lightly hurt. An eye-witness said, "As soon as I heard the blast, I ran over, and saw a girl missing a leg, and a car that was destroyed, and everything all turned upside down." A bus had unloaded only two minutes before the blast; the passengers had already dispersed when it went off.
Police said the explosive was placed in the garbage can sometime between 4 a.m., the time that the cans were emptied, and 8:40 a.m Some 80 apartments and 10 stores were damaged by the blast.
Police presence has been reinforced in Tel Aviv as well as in Jerusalem, following the explosion. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was quoted by Arutz-7 as saying, "This attack is another sign that terrorism is directed against all of us. There is terrorism not only in Hebron, but everywhere, and we must fight it aggressively."
Ahmed Tibi, advisor to PLO Chief Yasir Arafat, acting on behalf of the PLO Autonomy Authority, condemned the bombing. The casualties, including a pregnant woman, an infant, and at least one other child, were taken to Ichilov and Tel-HaShomer Hospitals. Most of the injuries are due to burns and shrapnel. At last report, no one had claimed responsibility for the blast.

According to a report released by the B'tselem Human Rights
organization, on the evening of Aug. 25, Fadwa 'Abd a-Salem
al-Aladem, a 24 year-old woman from the village of Bet Ula near
Hebron, went into labor.
Her brother-in-law was driving her to the hospital in a Peugeot 504 station wagon. The car arrived at the IDF checkpoint near Bet Kahel at approximately 7:40 p.m. The soldiers at the checkpoint refused to allow Fadwa to pass through the checkpoint towards Alia Hospital in Hebron, claiming that the city was under closure.
The family pleaded for 15 minutes to no avail. They were forced to turn back and travel to the hospital by a circuitous route. Rather than the usual 10-minute drive to the hospital, this alternative route took close to an hour. While on the way to the hospital, 'Abd a-Salem al-Aladem gave birth in the car in the Dura village.
The family reached the hospital at about 8:45 p.m. and 'Abd a-Salem al-Aladem was transferred to the maternity ward. Dr. Ahmad Atraira, who admitted the mother and newborn, wrote in his medical report that the baby was dying on arrival at the hospital and his efforts to save him proved fruitless.

A New Jersey groom collapsed and died of a heart attack while he
and his bride were being carried around on chairs during a
traditional Jewish wedding dance in a Boston hotel. The Boston
Globe reported Thursday that 37-year-old Gregg Kaplan, of Hoboken,
NJ, died despite the efforts of emergency personnel, just hours
after his wedding at Boston's Copley Plaza Hotel Saturday night.
Kaplan, a statistical analyst for an insurance company, was
pronounced dead within hours of his marriage to Tobbey Hirsh of
Wellesley. Some 200 guests were at the reception when the band
began playing "Hava Nagila," a Hebrew song during which the bride
and groom are hoisted overhead in chairs, as the crowd whirls
around the room.
When Kaplan collapsed, people at first thought he had just fainted
from the heat, but when they could not revive him, several guests
called 911. Emergency personnel were unable to resuscitate Kaplan
and he was pronounced dead early Sunday morning at New England
Medical Center.
One EMT told the Boston Herald, "They say God has a reason for
everything, but what could possibly be the reason for a man dying
on his wedding day?"
